USFRA World Of Speed 2010 Day 2 & 3.

I`ve been really busy what with helping with the VIncent Streamliner and trying to take pictures and meet people.Jim B the President of the USFRA who put this event on every year has asked me to submit about 60 pictures of cars for next years calender and posters. We`ll see if any of my pictures get used.
Anyway for those following LSR here`s  the link to Wednesday and Thursdays racing results.
Meanwhile back at the Vincent Streamliner pit things hit a bit of a snag. The output shaft bearing let go yesterday as Donny was on a run.

These bits here.....

...are supposed to be in a cage and go in that little groove around the end of the shaft....

..which is the output shaft of the Vincent engines. On the left is the clutch basket.
So I havn`t been at the pit all day since now they`re getting into specialized skill requirements which I do not have on a bike like this, but from what I heard Max is trying to get the Vincent repaired to try for a run in the morning.Thats all I have for now,i`ll post up the pictures tomorrow after I have downloaded them.I just havn`t had alot of time.

USFRA World Of Speed 2010 Race Day 1

So things appeared to go well today.Max got the clutch sorted out, finally, got the seal issue taken care of and we`re pretty much ready to run.
Donny Angel, one of the two pilots of the Vincent Streamliner will be in the hot seat for this event.
Speaking of hot,it was another warm one on the salt but at least there`s no more wind.Today was a really perfect day to knock off a few records.
The salt is dry and from what I saw blast by me in the Vincent pits on the course,it`s pretty darn fast too.Max decided to take the Liner down at about 3:30 in the afternoon to get in line even though we still had a few more things to button up like tire pressure, check fluids, put water in the water spray tanks and one or two more little things, but because the line was so long(really really long)he knew that he`d just get a number for a morning run tomorrow. So it appears as of this afternoon we`re all systems go for a first run in the morning.
Stainless ran today with a respectable 224+ mph.He was just taking it apart to check the computer data when I saw him.
Due to the fact that I was working most of the day I don`t really have any times for you,but tonite i`ll be sure to get more info and post it up tomorrow afternoon.
Meanwhile I did manage to sneak out of the pit and snap a few pics of people and their hardware. If you`ve never been to this or any other LSR racing events that take place at the Bonneville Salt Flats,it  really is a great spectator sport.Bring your car out with a cooler, some shade,a few chairs and sit and watch all sorts of vehicles roar across the salt at up to 400 mph !!.Alotta fun.

My boss Max Lambky.

The new clutch finally in place and adjusted.

This is not a position that Max is found in much these days,so Sonny says to me "Murph, get a pic of Max on his back".So boss,if you`re reading this Sonny made me do it ......really.

USFRA World Of Speed 2010 Pre Race Day.

Today was HOT and hectic on the salt.Max was trying to sort out the clutch seal issue all day. Finally he brought the Liner down to tech for inspection around 3 pm,and was out of there in an hour.Pretty quick considering.Tomorrow morning will see if the seal is fixed or not. It`s the same problem that hampered the Liners run at the BUB meet, the seal leaked and threw out oil onto the clutch plates,so no clutch. The run he made at BUB was a 190 mph run,in first gear !!!.Beacuse of the oil leak Hartmut didn`t even get it into second gear !!.So Max figures that if he gets the seal sorted out,the Liner is good for at least 250-280mph.He`s really hoping for a 300+mph run.
Anyway, some really nice hardware is starting to come into the pit area getting ready to race. Not as many motorcycles as I thought there would be,lots of twin engined Liners, saw a really nice one with two 12 Valve Cummins Turbo Diesels, probably a 275+mph run outa that rig.
Weather is looking nice for race day too,a little windy, but the salt is nice and dry,so expect some records to fall.
I`m trying to talk Max into letting me take the liner out on the first run but he`s being a little stubborn on that one.Wonder why. It`s not like I couldn`t drive it !!.
He probably has a few pre race jitters,I`ll keep workin on him.

Yea,I know, this is one of those "Caption This Pic" shots.

Thats Max Lambky on the left, the man who is "Black Lightning".
John on the right working on the new clutch basket that Max just made.

Anyway,we`ll see what happens tomorrow.Meanwhile,I trotted around the pit area while Max was down at tech inspection and took a few shots.
Peg Leg Craig left me a note wishing us good luck and asking is Donny riding this time.To be honest Craig,i`m not sure who`s piloting tomorrow.Hartmut hasn`t shown up yet,so maybe it is Donny, though I thought he was done riding that thing.I`ll let you know my friend and thanks for the well wishes.Regards to all for me Craig and appreciate you checking in on the blog.
