2010 SCTA World Finals Day 2 Results and Salt Update..

I`ve got about 5 minutes to post so I`ll make it short and sweet.
Here`s the SCTA Results page for today. This  is the short course results page, and  this is the long course results page.
I had a busy day between pits and gate, but I did hear that the 992 American Eagle made a 347 mph run on a 344 mph record this afternoon. He should be in impound now and make a second (record) run tomorrow morning.
However....this afternoon at about 3 looming on the horizon were rain clouds.....and the clouds came right over the course and dumped about 2" of liquid snow on BOTH courses.So.....unless there`s wind tonite,LOTS of wind,to dry off said courses for tomorrow,I can`t see much of anything running.
But,this being the Bonneville Salt Flats and Hallowed Ground `n all that, the Gods of Speed may have something to help us all out with.I am now offering up trinkets to the GOS(Gods of Speed),some titanium bolts and pieces of broken piston.

2010 SCTA World Finals Day 2 and Salt Update..

Well,Murphys law was in full force last night while I and the other racers were sleeping.I think I mentioned something about a light dusting of rain.....that wasn`t quite accurate.
The course was pretty damn wet this morning. The 3 miles from Lands End to the pits was a lake.I needed a Bass Boat, not a bike.
The course itself was better, though not what it could have been.
Two courses were prepared for racing, but because of the rain, the course closest to the pits was inoperable.
Regardless, today was a busy day. After the drivers meeting at 8 am,the line started forming at Mile 0 by 9 or so.
I was with the American Eagle 992 Streamliner untill noon, then was at gate duty untill 6 pm,so I didn`t get to do much pit picture taking, but I snuck in a few all the same.Skip decided not to run today,or rather by the time he was ready to run,30mph wind gusts come up and caused the course to be shutdown by the officals at around 3 this afternoon. So he`s going to try to run in the morning weather permitting.
Course conditions as of 4pm were not good.If it rains tonight, tomorrows racing may have to be cancelled. But,being the Salt Flats, you never can tell.
This afternoons racing was not without it`s moments either.
Danny Thompson hit some water somewhere around the 4-5 mile marker which caused the car to slip and fishtail and he ended up on his head(the car).Danny`s ok,walked away from it.I heard he was doing in the 240 mph region.
Meanwhile, some of the Salt Flats and it`s present occupants for you to peruse through.

7am Lands End.

2010 SCTA World Finals Tech Day and Salt Update 2

Well, after a day in the pits(literally) and changing jobs,I decided to do another posting tonight in the event that the next few days will not allow me much time to post.I lucked out today, with help from Linda(Lands End Linda,Keeper of the Gate) who hooked me up with Skip Hedrich,of  Hedrich Motorsports, who runs the 992 American Eagle Streamliner.
So now instead of working the gate,I got on as pit crew with Skip(!!).
I was actually supposed to crew for Skip at the USFRA World of Speed, but he had a breakdown, was a day late getting to the event,by which time I was on the Vincent Streamliner crew.
So between unloading the 992 American Eagle and getting it down to tech for inpection,I found time to shoot of a roll or two of film(!),so i`m posting a few pics of this afternoons festivitys tonight because my day starts tomorrow at 5am and who knows when it will end.

SALT UPDATE:The Salt looks really really good. There was no rain today on the course, but plenty of threatening clouds, which made for a wonderfull backdrop for pictures. The forecast is calling for rain tonight(they`re using the word "Numerous Showers"),but if anything it`ll probably just dust the course with a light film(at least thats what we all hope),however..........Murphys Law being what it is.......
Further deponent sayeth not.

6:30am. The road to Lands End.

Jeff Brocks wicked, chopped and sectioned Straight 8 Buick.

The Enola Gay cafe.
Can I get some salt for my fries please?.....

....Sorry,we`re out of salt.

Yep,thats a motorcycle engine.
And speaking of motorcycles there were a few really gorgeous Flatheads there.

This is Jim Hoogerhyde and Kristine Albers with their `03 GSXR 1000.
It`s already run a one way of 215 mph.

Those don`t look like factory vent holes to me....

Starting to unload the American Eagle 992.

Skip Hedrich.

So,this is a GT6 believe it or not, heavily chopped and sectioned(like you didn`t already know that)...AND it`s all steel,`cept for the giant hood.

Mark Hanson of Strangefab Metalcrafts assured me it really was nothing more that your average grocery go getter.....
